Environmental Policy

Dolguog Estates Ltd is a family business comprising Plas Dolguog Hotel & Cu Og’s Restaurant, Dolguog Estates Holiday Cabins and Grandma’s Garden set within the nine acres of Dolguog Estates. The hotel has been in operation since 1988, situated within a listed building pre-dating 1632. Conservation and sustainability are key issues for us and take a proactive approach within the business and in our personal lives.

Green Dragon Award - Level 2 We recognise the impact of our operations on the environment and aim to be an increasingly efficient green and environmental hotel. We strive to minimise any detrimental effects as a result of our business. By working together we can contribute to making a cleaner and safer environment and ensure environmental issues remain a focal point and receive proper attention.

In delivering our commitment we will :-

• Comply with relevant environmental legislation and take a proactive approach to future requirements and obligations.
• Seek to conserve natural resources through the responsible use of energy, water and materials but also maintaining the quality of service expected by our guests.
• Monitor performance and aim for continued improvement by reducing, re-using, and recycling in areas such as energy consumption, reduction of waste materials and water consumption.
• Work with suppliers who have compatible policies for managing their impact on the environment.

Recycling of ....

• Paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, cooking oil.
• Composting of cardboard, garden and domestic food waste
• Waste compacted to reduce number of collections.

Saving energy by ....

• Monitoring gas and electicity consumption on weekly basis.
• Use of low energy light bulbs.
• Re-use of towels on guest request.
• Building management systems that control temperature throughout the building.

Reduction of ....

• Water consumption by ongoing installation of new flush system in toilets.
• Paper use by printing on both sides via fax machine and inhouse memos.

Reducing our footprint by .....

• Using locally produced produce and suppliers for goods and services
• Employing local employees who have opportunity to walk and cycle to work
• Producing electricity through a Photovoltaic array
• Installing a Geo-therm heat exchange system
• Having a heat reclaim pump on dish washer
• Reclaiming heat from the beer chillers to heat Public area
• Growing our own herbs
• Lowering our CO2 emmissions by repacing heavy oil boiler with new more fuel efficient gas boiler
• Managing our own woodland - using the timber on our log fires in the winter giving us a balanced carbon rating on our winter heating
